We are committed to providing advanced, specialized procedures for some of the most complex cases here in Las Vegas.

Minimally Invasive Valve Surgery

Our surgeons perform most procedures at MountainView Hospital as well as Southern Hills Hospital & Medical Center. Both facilities are leaders in the community for providing the safest and most compassionate care available. MountainView Hospital is renowned nationally and in the Southern Nevada community for its top-rated, quality heart care program including recognition from U.S. News & World Report as being a “high-performing hospital” in the areas of heart failure and COPD (2019/2020) among many others.

MountainView Hospital utilizes minimally invasive techniques as a standard of care for the repair and replacement of aortic and mitral heart valves. Our practice along with the hospital are dedicated to delivering the highest level of heart care, to each of our patients, every day.

What is minimally invasive surgery?

Minimally invasive surgery refers to a procedure requiring a small incision with minimal damage to surrounding tissue. The many potential advantages of this approach include:

  • Smaller incision
  • Smaller scar, or less scarring
  • Lower risk of infection
  • Minimal trauma to surrounding tissue
  • Decreased pain
  • Decreased risk of infection
  • Decreased blood loss
  • Decreased length-of-stay and faster recovery. The average recovery time after minimally invasive surgery is one to four weeks, while the average recovery time after traditional heart surgery is six to eight weeks. This means a quicker return to physical activities and driving for your patients.
  • Minimally invasive valve surgery reduces or eliminates the need to divide the breastbone.

Robotic Thoracic Surgery

MountainView Hospital and Southern Hills Hospital & Medical Center are the only hospitals in Southern Nevada to offer robotic-assisted thoracic surgery. This minimally invasive option for diseases and disorders of the lung including cancer can result in a significant reduction in risks associated with traditional open surgical procedures. Robotic surgery typically involves a smaller incision, less pain and scarring resulting in a faster recovery. Robotic-assisted surgery allows for more control, creating access to detailed visuals for your surgeon while allowing for better control of the robotic arms during the procedure. This means better outcomes for our patients and less time recovering in the hospital so you can get back to doing what you love.

The following procedures may be performed by our surgeon using a robotically assisted system:

  • Lobectomy, including video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and robotically assisted surgery
  • Wedge resection of the lung
